Figure Studies test shoot

In the preparation for my first two test shoots of this university year tomorrow, I have decided to try out my ideas today by doing some self-portraits. I have forgotten how much of a long and daunting task this was! For one of my projects in first semester I want to look at the female figure. I believe that it will be a good practice to try out some interesting poses for my future fashion projects and also learn more about studio lighting.

Inspired by Edward Weston's Nude, 1936, I've set up a tripod, hopped into a lace bodysuit and reinterpreted his stunning photograph into a simple figure study. I used natural lighting coming from my bedroom window which resulted in getting quite harsh lighting on the left side and darker shadows on the right side. Although I want to shoot this series in a studio, I want to play around with the backdrop which is why I am sitting on a patterned bed covers which brings perspective into the image. This is inspired by Rineke Dijkstra's photographs

Overall, I'm quite happy with the results that I achieved although I am looking forward to photographing other people rather than myself.
