I have recently checked my recommendations on Amazon and came across a book about Vivian Maier's street photography. I have never before seen her work or even heard about her but the title of the book, Street Photographer, was enough to grab my attention so I had a sneak preview hoping I would get inspired for my project at uni. And I was right. The preview of the book looked great so I went to search for more of her work on google where I found a website dedicated to her photography. It was her self portraits that interested and inspired me the most. They're nothing like I've seen before with this new era of heavily edited fairy tails stories that, to be quite honest, I am not a big fan of. Hers are very simple, with the camera in her hands. More like the new 'myspace selfies', which isn't a great comparison either. She combines self portraiture with street photography and this I find so very interesting and unique. Very often she isn't the first obvious main character in the portraits which I find great because it gives the viewer the room to analyse the photograph and work everything out for themselves. Being interested in combining two different genres of photography myself, I'm just in love with these images and am happy to say that Amazon helped me find a new inspiration.
