Whilst taking a break from doing uni work a few months ago, I watched one of the short recaps of Kirstie Allsop's programs on Channel 4. I remember two particular episodes which have really inspired me. One was about vintage silhouette pictures which I have interpreted myself as birthday cards and was quite proud especially of one of them. In the other episode, she has made a cupcake bouquet. I have never seen anything as pretty and, well, cool before. I knew straight away that it would be something that I would love to try out and already had a few people in mind when it came to thinking of Christmas presents.
As my university project went on, I started looking at online magazine submissions to publish my work in and one of the magazines had their "birthday" coming up so I thought of a birthday theme and really wanted to include the cupcake bouquet in the pictures.
Two weeks ago, when I needed a break from writing my dissertation, I went to the kitchen and spent 3 hours buried in a massive mess. I baked 24 cupcakes which I have then decorated with icing sugar of two colours and using toothpicks attached them to the polystyrene ball placed in a flower pot. It wasn't a finished product. There was still a few cupcakes missing and I needed some leaves to cover up the white gaps. It was, however, a great fun and I would definitely be happy to give or receive this as a Christmas or birthday present.
